High surf on St. George Island before Gustav08/31/08    As you can see, one of them was already being overwashed by the high waves, and we will probably lose a number of nests tonight due to the high surf. The weather folks are not predicting any flooding or surge for St. George Island, just bands of wind and rain as Gustav sweeps by well to our south, on its way west. The onshore winds have already piled up a lot of sand our our beaches - note the bottom few steps of the boardwalk that are already covered by sand. The winds have been predominantly out of the east most of the day, but are now coming strongly up from the south, which is what is bringing us our high surf. So, here's hoping for a slowing and weakening of Gustav before it makes landfall tomorrow to our west.... Care to respond to this blog post? Feel free to use the form below. |
