What IS this bug???

As any of you know who have ever lived or visited Florida, we have no shortage of interesting flora and fauna. This very cool looking bug was on the pillar under my house where I park.

After taking several shots, I finally squatted down to take a picture of him or her from another angle, and realized it was actually TWO bugs, both him AND her. Hmmm.

I still wonder what it is - even taken separately, they look like something from Men in Black.

If you know, let me know. The bottom bug (presumably the female) is about 4 inches long. I have bird books, and plant books, but no bug books at my house...

Kim says they are called the devils walking stick...Not sure of the official name. Where is Lois with Aloha Bugs when you need her? HA

Just returned from St. George. Stayed in a home in the Plantation and looked at lots of real estate. A lot of the homes had a residual trail left from a bug, worm or snake. It was a dried blood red color and would wind all over the foundation and door ways. Any idea what this if from. It was difficult to clean off. Thanks.
