Another lucky day + bayside real estate picks on St. George Island
08/02/08

Another lucky day on the beach at dawn this morning - it started raining about halfway through my walk, but I had already marked one new turtle nest by that time, and I picked up the little hamburger bean at right in the grasses left by our high surf from the last few days.
Now you see why they call it a hamburger bean??
Again, it's another type of seed pod, and the texture is like polished wood. This one is about the size of a nickel in circumference, about half an inch thick. It would be perfect if I still played with dolls the way my cousins and I used to growing up - we went to long lengths to make realistic looking food for our doll parties, and this one came out of the gulf ready to go into immediate use!
Most people think about the beach when they think about St. George Island, but our bay side is just beautiful - I live on the bay side of the island myself, and I love it. You can still hear the surf if it's really kicking up good, but there's no worry that the waves will reach your boardwalk or your dunes. The interaction with the water on the bayside involves water shoes, kayaks, fishing poles, and binoculars. You see eagles, osprey, dolphins, jumping mullet, pelicans, and all kinds of song birds on the bay side.
You also hear the most amazing collection of frogs at night - they love the swampy wetland sections of the island, as do the dragonflies and birds of every type. Butterflies migrate through our island as well, and they go for the native plants that flower on the bayside at just the perfect time for them as they prepare for their long jouney across the water. St. George is their jumping off place to Mexico and South America.
Hey, I wonder if they light on hamburger beans on the vine when they get there?
Anyway, back to bay side real estate... we currently have 32 bay front homes for sale on St. George Island, and almost that many bay view homes for sale. Asking prices on bay front homes range from $449,900 to $2,997,000 right now.
Two particularly nice offerings are shown at right, both listed by various brokerages on the island:
Hale Aloha, MLS #205128, middle picture above. Wide open unobstructed views of the bay and the St. George Island bridge. This home is on the vacation rental market and is reported to bring in ovef $30,000 in gross rental income annually. 1900+ square feet, with a nice dock, this one is listed for $699,000.
Kingfisher Pointe, MLS #208179, bottom picture. This beautiful custom home is a personal home, not a rental, and includes top end finishes, furnishings, boat dock and boat lift. The view across the bay towards Apalachicola is spectacular. It is listed for $1,199,000.
If you'd like to expore bayside possibilities, you can go to the Property Search button above, or call me and I'll set you up with custom market watch capability reporting directly to your email.
And, I'll also talk to you about all this if you'd like to pick up the phone - there's always that :)
Any time, seriously. Thanks!
